Christmas Day 2024: Which restaurants are open and which are closed?

Christmas Day is perhaps the only time of the year when it seems like everyone is off. However, for those who can’t eat another bite of leftovers or don’t want to cook, December 25th will be the perfect time to go to a restaurant. But which are open and which are closed? Let’s take a look.

Christmas Day 2024: A few restaurants will be open

According to The Daily Jeffmost restaurants will be closed on the holidays, but a few will be open.

Hours of operation for Taco Bell, Starbucks, Dunkin’, Burger King and Wendy’s will vary by location, so it’s important to check with your local eatery for details. McDonald’s will have most of its locations open on Christmas Day.

Do shops have to close on public holidays?

As work changes in the new post-COVID world, questions have been raised about whether stores should be open on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Aaron Walters, Chairman and CEO of Stand Out For Good, said last year “It has long been a goal of mine to close the shops on Christmas Eve. Our team works so hard to make the Christmas season happen and they deserve to rest and relax at home with their families.”

Stores owned by the company, which is based in Knoxville, Tenn., were closed last year for the holiday and are likely to be closed this year on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The company operates 118 Altar’d State stores, 32 Arula stores, 10 Vow’d stores, nine AS Revival stores and seven Tullabee stores in 38 states.

Stand Out For Good doesn’t offer Christian clothing, but it claims to have a “faith-based approach” to retail, with its flagship Altar’d State chain promising to provide “a fashion experience on a mission to change the world for the better.” 10% of proceeds on Mondays go to nonprofits across the country.

“We’re faith-based. It doesn’t matter what your background is, where you’re from or what your faith is,” working or doing business at Altar’d State, Walters told WWD in 2019. “But we run our business based on some simple principles — treat others as you want to be treated and give a lot of help to others. We put love into our business.”

In recent yearschains such as Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Kohl’s, Macy’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods have chosen to close their stores on Thanksgiving. This decision was made in part to reduce crowds during the pandemic and to express gratitude to their employees. In 2021, Target announced the permanent closing of its stores on Thanksgiving.

Since 2015, REI has received significant media attention for its decision to close stores on Black Friday and promote outdoor exploration among consumers.

While stores are often filled with last-minute shoppers on Christmas Eve, most businesses, including grocery stores, close their doors early — usually around 10 p.m. 18.00 or
