Scarlett Johansson cringes as Colin Jost is forced to joke about marriage on ‘SNL’

Despite a recurring sense of dread, “Saturday Night Live” star Colin Jost has probably gotten used to telling merciless jokes at his wife Scarlett Johansson’s expense in the annual joke swap where he and “Weekend Update” co-anchor Michael Che recite jokes , which they have written to each other during the program’s news segment – allegedly without having seen them beforehand.

What Jost may not have been prepared for this year was Johansson’s presence backstage as she was forced to watch her husband take the plunge in real time as the camera cut between the couple. The actress appeared on “SNL” to welcome host Martin Short to the prestigious Five-Timers club, which she joined in 2017. However, before getting into jokes about his wife, Jost read racist jokes written for him by Che , as has happened in previous years.

“Time out. Before we do this, I know Michael is going to make me tell some racist jokes like he always does.” Jost started. “So this time, if you don’t mind, I’d like to read all the ‘Black Voice’ jokes so I don’t get in trouble.”

“So apologies in advance,” he told the crowd before delivering a joke about Vice President Kamala Harris and reparations for slavery. “Y’all know my girl Kamala Harris held a town hall and talked about (how) she still supports the idea of slavery reparations. Well, dammit, girl. Me too. Because white people deserve our money back for all the slaves that run away,” he said, visibly horrified by the remark. “Shiz. I’m not afraid of you mofos,” a pained Jost read through the laughter.

The next joke focused on Jost’s wife, but he continued to speak in a “Black voice” throughout the segment.

“I want to dedicate this next joke to my message, Scarlett Johansson,” Jost said. The camera then cut to Johansson backstage watching the recording. Johansson grabbed her drink and cringed as she braced herself for the inevitable.

“No! Oh my god, she’s so genuinely concerned,” Jost said before delivering the joke. “Hey boo. You all know Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday. Which means I’m about to get out of there.”

“Why?” Johansson could be heard saying as the camera cut to her. “Shiz,” Jost continued hysterically. “Nah, nah. I’m just kidding. We just had a kid together and you can’t see any pictures of him yet because he’s black as hell,” he said, referring to the couple’s son, Cosmo. “Shiz. I’m not afraid of you mofos,” he repeated.

“Oh s—,” Johansson said with the camera back on her and took a sip of her drink.

I love all your movies. And if you ask me, you’re an even better ‘Black Widow’ than Coretta Scott King,” he said as he winced.
