Martin briefly storms off the stage and demands “better script”

Martin Short returns home to Studio 8H, but don’t expect him to take it easy with the flow Saturday Night Live cast.

In the latest promo for this weekend’s episode, the 3x Golden Globe nominee had a very in-character meltdown when he criticized the script for the NBC sketch comedy show and stormed off stage, where he was joined by musical guest Hozier and cast member Kenan Thompson.

“You know what I want for Christmas this year?” Short said. “A better script than this! This is mischievous!”

The Only murder in the building the star also criticized the decor at 30 Rockefeller. “It’s the Christmas show, so it’s always fun,” Thompson noted.

“Is it?” Short asked. “Shouldn’t someone put up some decorations?” Hozier agreed that the stage looked “a little bit bare” despite the garland and lights behind them.

“Oh, we’ll get right to it,” Thompson said before yelling to someone off-camera. “Hey! Martin Short wants some more decorations!”

Short was a cast member in season 10 of SNL from 1984 to 1985, reviving several characters he previously originated on Canada’s Second City Televisionincluding Ed Grimley. He has since returned to SNL on several occasions.
