Neil Cavuto, frequent Trump target, is leaving Fox News after 28 years

Veteran Fox News star Neil Cavuto is leaving after 28 years at the anchor’s desk, the network confirmed Thursday.

His last day will be today, when he will step down at the end of “Your World,” the afternoon show he has hosted since Fox News launched in 1996.

“Neil Cavuto’s illustrious career has been a masterclass in journalism, and we are extremely proud of his incredible 28-year run with Fox News Media,” the network said in a statement. “His programs have defined business news and set the standard for the entire industry. We wish him a warm farewell and all the best in his next chapter.”

Cavuto was a mainstay on the network, hosting three shows across Fox News and sister channel Fox Business Network, totaling 12 hours of programming per week. In addition to anchoring the daily shows “Your World” and “Cavuto: Coast to Coast” and the weekend show “Cavuto Live,” the 66-year-old served as vice president of Fox Business Network.

With Cavuto, one of the network’s last remaining on-air stars is publicly clashing with Donald Trump — at a time when Fox has dominated the cable news landscape in part because of its appeal to MAGA’s conservative viewers.

Cavuto was often critical of Trump and fact-checked his claims on everything from Covid-19 treatments to trade tariffs to hurricane-related misinformation.

In turn, Trump has made Cavuto a frequent target of his ire. In 2020, after the Fox host ridiculed Trump’s reported use of hydroxychloroquine as a Covid-19 prophylactic, Trump retweeted attacks on Cavuto, calling him “stupid” and “foolishly.”

During a campaign rally that same year, Trump reportedly spent 20 minutes railing against a Cavuto segment in which a guest criticized his debating skills. He directly insulted Cavuto, claiming that “nobody likes him” and his “loser show.”

Earlier this year, after Cavuto suggested Trump lost his first and only presidential debate against Kamala Harris, the president-elect. sent to Truth Social that “Neil Cavuto, Fox’s lowest rated anchor, is one of the WORST on TV. I actually prefer the losers on CNN and MSDNC!”

A month later, Trump doubled down, writing again that “Neil Cavuto has one of the worst shows on TV – and the worst rated on FoxNews. The folks at Fake News CNN are better!”

“I don’t work for you,” Cavuto once answered to a Trump tirade about his coverage. “My job is to cover you, not scam you or tear you apart, just cover you.”
