New Disney+ series and movies in December 2024

These are the words every nerd both loves and hates to hear: “There’s a new Star Wars show on Disney+.” But Mouse House spent a gazillion dollars acquiring the rights to Star Wars to make TV series set in that universe, so it will keep churning them out regardless of the overreaction from hardcore Star Wars fans. Call me an optimist, but the latest series, Star Wars: The Skeleton Crewlooks like a good time. For families anyway. The series follows a group of youngsters on an adventure after they discover an ancient relic on their home planet, which leads them to cross paths with a mysterious character played by Jude Law.

The other big release of the month is Pixar’s Dream productionsa four-episode series set between the timelines of Inside Out and From the inside out 2. In it, daydream instructors Paula Persimmon (Paula Pell) and Xeni (Richard Ayoade) try to reach the big time, where they can create night dreams. And if you’re into unusual corporate synergy that doesn’t make a lot of sense, ESPN and Disney+ are teaming up for the Christmas Day sports special Dunk the Hallswhich combines a live NBA game with Disney animation in a way that I can’t even begin to understand.
