MINNEAPOLIS – A winter storm warning is in effect Thursday as the biggest snowstorm so far this season hits Minnesota.

The Twin Cities can expect about 4 inches of accumulation, with many in the I-94 corridor in the 4-6 inch range.

There will be snow on the ground in the morning and most of the morning.

Snow rates will be intense at times, but will taper off after midday and eventually overnight.

Everything will be finished on Friday. There will be a new layer of snow on the ground and slightly colder temperatures, with high teenagers and a bit more sunshine.

The weekend looks set to remain cold, with highs reaching the lower 20s. Astronomical winter begins on Saturday.

Looking ahead to next week, temperatures will begin to warm. The Twin Cities could return to freezing on Monday, just before Christmas.

With the warmer air will come clouds and a small chance of some snow Monday morning, but it will be generally dry.

Christmas is currently warm, with highs in the upper 30s.

Models currently expect a warm final stretch of the year with a mild finish to 2024.
