Doug Gottlieb’s UWGB loses to Michigan Tech after Adam Schefter spat

game

It hasn’t been the most wonderful time of year University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men’s basketball coach Doug Gottlieb.

Things have taken a turn from bad to worse for Gottlieb, the nationally known radio host and first-year coach if Phoenix continues to struggle.

On Monday, Gottlieb took a left hook from ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on social media after he questioned a report issued by Schefter.

“Jeezus Shefty, edit what agents are telling you… 0.0% chance Sac State has $50M in NIL,” Gottlieb responded to X to a Schefter post.

“Jeezus, Doug. A seven-game losing streak and last place in the Horizon League? Less time on social media and more time in the gym,” Schefter wrote to X after initially responding to Gottlieb defending his reporting.

The tough stretch for Gottlieb extended to the basketball court soon after.

Early Wednesday afternoon, Phoenix lost 72-70 to Michigan Tech, a Division-II program in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula that blew a late lead.

Make things worse? After a loss to rival UW-Milwaukee last Wednesday, Gottlieb referred to schools outside of Phoenix’s DI sphere as “Nobody U” in response to a question from the Journal Sentinel.

“Part of the reason I want to play against better teams is because it’s 2 degrees outside and snowing,” Gottlieb said. “I don’t really like the idea of ’Nobody U’ coming in here. I’ve always thought, ‘What do we learn playing a game where we win by 20?’ But there is a method to it, I will have to adjust forward to the schedule.

Green Bay, playing without injured Anthony Roy, the nation’s second-leading scorer, fell to 2-11 and ran its losing streak to eight games.

Gottlieb, who continues to host The Doug Gottlieb Show daily on Fox Sports Radio, was scheduled to be on the air within an hour of the end of Wednesday’s loss.
