Dallas Weather: Thunderstorms with hail, unseasonably warm weather hit DFW

By the numbers

Is it usually this hot in December? That’s the question many Dallas-area residents were asking after waking up to unseasonably warm temperatures on Monday.

While temperatures in the 70s in mid-December can feel strange, Dallas experienced similar conditions on this day last year.

On December 16, 2023, temperatures were also in the low 70s.

The average temperature for December 16 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is typically around 68 degrees, which means today’s temperatures are about 6 degrees warmer than normal, but not drastically so.

Forecast today

Expect warm and rainy conditions across the metroplex today with a risk of thunderstorms.

Temperatures will remain in the mid-70s, with some areas possibly reaching the 70s.

Spotted showers will affect North Texas this morning until around noon, followed by a break for a few hours.

The storm is expected to develop again this evening, with heavy rain, gusty winds and the possibility of small hail.

What’s next

Tuesday morning will bring cooler temperatures in the low 40s and 50s, but a warm front will push temperatures back into the low 70s by afternoon. The morning will be foggy with scattered showers.

Wednesday will bring cooler, cooler conditions, with temperatures back in the 50s and a 40%-50% chance of showers during the day.

Be sure to grab an umbrella on Monday and Wednesday!
