James Gunn ‘Superman’ Poster Includes Christopher Reeve Connection

The wait for the first “Superman” trailer is almost over.

James Gunn’s “Superman,” starring David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, opens Thursday at 6 PT, Warner Bros. announced. Monday. Fans got a new look at the superhero with a motion poster that paid tribute to Christopher Reeve’s iconic version of Superman.

If you listen carefully, you can hear a slower rendition of composer John Williams’ famous “Superman” theme from Reeves’ 1978 film. While Williams’ score is known for its blasting horns and triumphant tone, the poster for Gunn’s film remixes the music with a quieter, more thoughtful reimagining . The horns and brass are swapped for strings, and a female voice hums the iconic melody.

The poster shows Corenswet’s Superman staring upwards as he flies. The reds, blues, and yellows of his costume blur into the background of the motion poster, creating an eye-catching high-speed effect that makes it appear as if Corenswet is zooming into the sky. The slogan reads: “Look up.”

Warner Bros. also released a short teaser with the Superman logo confirming the timing of the trailer’s release. It repeats the “Look up” phrase as the famous “S” is turned from upside down to right side up.

Gunn’s “Superman,” formerly titled “Superman: Legacy,” hits theaters July 11. It is the first film to be released under the new DC Studios, overseen by Gunn and Peter Safran. Corenswet stars alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner the Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and more.
