Multiple injuries reported at Madison’s Abundant Life Christian School

Multiple people have been injured in a shooting at a Christian school in Madison, according to Madison police.

The shooting happened at Abundant Life Christian School, 4901 E. Buckeye Road, Madison police said.

Roads are closed along 4900 Buckeye Road. Police asked people to avoid the area.

About 335 students are enrolled in the school from kindergarten to 12th grade. It shares a 28-acre campus with the Campus for Kids Learning Center, a program for infants through 4-year-old kindergarten, and the non-denominational City Church.

A Journal Sentinel reporter at the scene observed parents running into a nearby SSM Health urgent care and clinic to pick up children, some of whom were in infant car seats. It seemed to be a reunification point for parents. Ambulances were periodically seen leaving the school grounds.

More information was not immediately available. Journalists gathered at a nearby Kwik Trip ahead of a news conference with police.

US Senator Ron Johnson responded to the shooting on X: “My sincere condolences and prayers to all the victims of the tragedy at Abundant Life Christian School. I will continue to closely monitor the situation.

And Democratic US Rep. Mark Pocan responded to a message from US Rep. Derrick Van Orden on X, saying in part, “Support better gun laws or stay out. Thoughts and prayers are useless. Action!”
