Westbound Loop 202 closed in Mesa after fatal pedestrian accident

A pedestrian has died in a crash on Loop 202 that caused a major westbound traffic jam at Country Club Drive.

What to know

Westbound lanes of Loop 202 in Mesa were closed Monday morning as authorities cleared debris from a crash involving a pedestrian.

Cars were seen stationary on the Red Mountain Freeway at 7:00 a.m., beginning at Country Club Drive and extending all the way to Gilbert Road.

Alternate routes to avoid traffic jams include McKellips Road or Beeline Highway on State Route 87.

There is no estimated time to clear the road.
