Prediction: Which Lions player will have a big game vs. Bills?

The Detroit Lions are facing Buffalo Bills Sunday afternoon in what might be the team’s biggest test. While they continue to hold the lead in the NFC North and the entire conference, Detroit’s lead is just one in both races, and a loss to the Bills would jeopardize their chances of hanging on.

Bill’s offense is undeniable. Quarterback and MVP candidate Josh Allen is having a career year, and is the biggest reason the Bills have scored at least 30 points in seven straight games. Buffalo’s defense is a bit more inconsistent, but still ranks highly as a unit. They are ranked eighth in points allowed and 10th in DVOA.

So today’s question is:

Which Lions player will get a big game against the Bills?

My answer: I think it will be Jahmyr Gibbs.

The Bills have allowed 4.7 yards per game. carry this season (26th), and a big reason for that is their tendency to give up big chunk plays in the run. They’ve allowed 49 rushes of at least 10 yards, and Gibbs is second in rushes of 10+ yards (30) – trailing only another MVP candidate (Saquon Barkley).

Gibbs currently ranks fifth in the NFL in total rushing yards (1,016), which is quite an accomplishment considering he doesn’t even have the most carries on the team. His 178 rushing attempts are narrowly surpassed by David Montgomery (180).

If Gibbs can show his explosiveness on Sunday, it could keep Allen off the court and give Detroit their best chance to hold on to their lead in the standings with just three games remaining.
