Zakir Hussain is very much alive, says nephew Ameer Aulia, dismissing news of Tabla maestro’s death

Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain’s nephew on Sunday dismissed news reports of his uncle’s death and called for the misinformation to be dispelled.

Soon after the news outlet reported that the 73-year-old tabla maestro had passed away, social media platforms were flooded with condolence messages.

Hussain, son of legendary tabla player Ustad Allah Rakha, has been admitted to the intensive care unit of a San Francisco hospital with heart-related problems.

“My uncle Zakir Hussain is very much alive and we want to ask the news media not to post misinformation. We ask for prayers and we ask for everyone’s well-being,” nephew Ameer Aulia said in a post on X.

In another post, Aulia called for this misinformation to be removed.

“He is in a serious condition and we ask all his fans around the world to pray for his health,” Aulia added.

.Earlier, Hussain’s manager Nirmala Bachani said the 73-year-old US-based musician, who has taken the tabla to the global stage, had been suffering from blood pressure problems.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also extended deepest condolences.
