Zakir Hussain admitted

According to a report published by PTI, Zakir has been admitted to the ICU. He was hospitalized after experiencing heart-related problems, his friend and flutist Rakesh Chaurasia confirmed to the news agency on Sunday.

A source close to Zakir said that the 73-year-old American-based musician had been having problems with his blood pressure.

“He has been admitted to a hospital in San Francisco for a heart-related problem for the last week. He is ill and is in the ICU right now. We are all worried about the situation,” Chaurasia told PTI.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that he had been admitted to a San Francisco hospital and is being treated for ‘serious’ health conditions. At this moment, his family is seeking prayers and blessings from everyone for his speedy recovery. Other details about his health condition have not been released yet.

In addition, he is a composer, percussionist, music producer and film actor. Born to tabla maestro, Alla Rakha and Bavi Begum in Mahim, Mumbai on March 9, 1951, Zakir Hussain had an inclination to play the tabla at a very young age.

He learned to play the mridang (a classical percussion instrument) from his father when he was just 3 years old and started performing in concerts at the age of 12. He has collaborated with several Western musicians, including his partnership with the legendary pop band The Beatles . In 2024, the tabla maestro made history at the 66th Grammy Awards, becoming the first Indian to win three trophies in a single night.
