‘It Ends With Us’ dethroned by a new film on Netflix’s top 10 list

Well, I thought it would stay at #1 a bit longer, but it turns out I was wrong. It Ends with Us has dropped to #2 on Netflix’s top 10 movies list after just a few days. Now an original Netflix action thriller has taken its game, Carry-On.

Carry-On has a really good cast, which includes Kingsman’s Taron Egerton and Arrested Development’s Jason Bateman (I know he’s done a lot, but he’ll always be Michael Bluth to me, even though this isn’t a comedy). It also includes former Disney star Sofia Carson, and is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who has made some…interesting films, but a few I liked, such as The Shallows (ironically starring Blake Lively, the star in the movie, his new movie just came out) . Also in his catalog are Orphan, House of Wax, Jungle Cruise and Black Adam. It’s certainly a wide range.

Here’s what Carry-On is all about:

“A young TSA agent struggles to outwit a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into slipping a dangerous package onto a plane for Christmas Eve.”

TSA agent thriller! But even if it sounds a bit silly, the film is reviewed quite well, sitting at one 86% critic scorevery solid for a Netflix original movie. And it debuted directly at #1, indicating a level of audience interest.

It’s interesting that the closer we get to Christmas, the fewer Christmas movies appear at the top of the list here, and I swear there were more in November than there are now. However, Netflix doesn’t have the best selection of Christmas movies, and most of its catalog is Hallmark-esque one-offs about small-town women who meet attractive men. But hey, it’s a popular genre for a reason. It’s also now booked Lindsay Lohan to star in a few of these, and they’ve always done well, including this year’s entry, Our Little Secret, which was actually #1 a week or two ago.

As for Carry-On, writing this article has convinced me to give it a watch tonight with the family, as it looks like it could be a solid thriller, based on these reviews and that cast. Hopefully these results prove to be accurate and it’s a good use of two hours. I’ll report back how it goes when I’m done with it.
