As mentioned above, OG Maco is one of the pioneers of trap music. Originally from College Park, Georgia, he later became active in the thriving hip-hop scene in Atlanta. He released his studio album The God Of Rage in 2021. Before that, he released several extended plays, including Public Speaking (under the name Maco Mattox) in 2012, a self-titled release in 2014, Breathe in 2014 and many more.

In July 2016, OG Maco, whose legal name is Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., was involved in a serious vehicle accident. He nearly lost the use of one eye and suffered multiple skull fractures, cracked vertebrae and a number of other injuries. In a 2016 interview with HipHopDXAND Maco explained what happened:

“You know, it doesn’t happen like that. My face (points to right side of face) this whole part of my face is fake,” the rapper said. “This part just doesn’t exist anymore. This is plastic surgery at its best. Even my eye; my eye is coming back.”

On why he wore an eyepatch at the time, OG Maco elaborated, “I can see out of this eye! But it’s just not healthy for me to keep it out and s***. If I keep doing it, I’ll couldn’t see this eye. It’s getting infected, so I have to take my time.”

In 2019, the rapper was processed for a condition called necrotizing fasciitis, caused by a flesh-eating bacteria. This led to significant facial scarring.
