Randy Moss confirmed he was diagnosed with cancer after his son previously denied reports.

“You know I’ve been telling you all over the last couple of weeks that I’m fighting something internally,” Moss, 47, said in a Friday the 13th interview. Instagram Live video. “And your boy is a cancer survivor.”

Moss said he had a stent put in his liver last month on Thanksgiving because the waste was spilling out in his urine.

“I had cancer, they found it in the bile duct right between the pancreas and the liver,” he explained. “The cancer was just outside the bile duct.”

Moss underwent a “six-hour operation,” which included a Whipple procedure — an operation that removes the head of the pancreas, part of the small intestine, the gallbladder and the bile duct, per Mayo Clinic. The retired NFL player said he had been “in the hospital for six days” and had just been released from the hospital on Friday.

The ESPN commentator, who is currently on leave amid his health battle, plans to move forward with chemotherapy and radiation, but is “fine” for now. Moss explained that he would not be answering any follow-up questions about his condition, but wanted to get on social media so his fans could see him as he recovers. Moss shared that he is hoping for a speedy recovery in hopes of returning to work soon.

“All the prayers, well wishes, I really felt it, my family felt it,” he said.

In addition to spreading cancer awareness and encouraging everyone to complete their annual screenings, Moss is also raising money for cancer research through her new Team Moss merch.

The news of Moss’ cancer diagnosis comes just days after his son Thaddeus strongly denied rumors that his father was battling cancer. It all started when the former NFL star Larry Fitzgerald‘s father, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., posted via X on Tuesday, December 10 that Moss “has liver cancer” and sent well wishes his way.

“Let’s show the power of prayer and pull Moss through this ,” Larry Sr. wrote. “I love you Randy.”

Thaddeus fired back in a since-deleted post, writing: “This is disgusting. You have no right to try to publicize private matters for the sake of engagement. I don’t believe my father is speaking to you, so check your sources.”
