The former Kennebunk football star reaches the NCAA Final Four with Vermont

KENNEBUNK (WGME) – Former Kennebunk football star Max Murray has his Vermont Catamounts in the NCAA Final Four.

Vermont will play Denver on Friday down in Cary, North Carolina at 5:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to the national championship game next Monday night against either Ohio State or Marshall.

“Moods are definitely high right now, to be able to say you’re one of the last four teams left in the country is huge,” Murray said.

The Catamounts stunned Pitt 2-0 to advance, and Murray, a 6’5″ forward-turned-defender, says the key will be defense.

“I mean for 90 minutes against Pitt we defended really well and so that’s something we’re proud of and we just feel like if we don’t let the other team score, we know our forwards are going to score when they get their opportunity,” Murray said.

Murray says the trip to the College Cup has been a dream come true.

“You know, I’ve always said this is the best decision I’ve made so far in my life coming to Vermont,” Murray said. “The whole process and the journey we’ve been on this year has been the best, so far.”
