ASU football is crashing Arizona and waiting for help in the Big 12 title chase

Running back Cam Skattebo rushed for 177 yards and scored three touchdowns as the no. 16 Arizona State routed Arizona to a 49-7 victory in the 98th Territorial Cup on Saturday.

With the win, ASU will now wait and see if it did enough to reach the Big 12 Championship game. After Baylor defeated Kansas and Texas Tech’s win over West Virginia earlier Saturday, there is now three scenarios who could see ASU pull it off.

The win marked ASU’s first Territorial Cup victory since 2021 and its first win in Tucson since their 70-7 victory in 2020. The Wildcats had won the previous two meetings, including a 59-23 win in Tempe in 2023.

Big 12 championship game scenarios after Territorial Cup

Arizona State would clinch a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game with a TCU win against Cincinnati or a BYU win against Houston.

There is a scenario where Arizona State could still miss the Big 12 title game despite the win on Saturday.

If Cincinnati defeats TCU and BYU loses, the Sun Devils will be left out to Colorado against Iowa State.

If Iowa State loses to Kansas State and BYU defeats Houston, ASU and BYU will meet in the championship game.

A BYU loss and a TCU win against Cincinnati would see Arizona State and Colorado play in the Big 12 title game.

If ASU, BYU, Iowa State and Colorado finish tied at 7-2 in conference play, ASU and Iowa State will meet in the Big 12 title game.
