This year’s Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day halftime show at Ford Field was headlined by one of the biggest musical hits of the summer.

Shaboozey, a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, was announced as the headliner of the halftime show at the Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears game on Thursday, the Lions said on Nov. 10.

Here’s what you need to know about Shaboozey and the Thanksgiving Day halftime show.

Who is Shaboozey?

Shaboozey is one Nigerian-American artist which released its first single back in 2014 and is “cutting a path in the alternative country and hip-hop space,” the Lions said in a press release announcing the performance. He is also on “Spaghetti“and”Sweet Honey Buckin‘” from Beyoncé’s highly acclaimed album “Cowboy Carter.”

But it was arguably “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” that catapulted him into the mainstream with its catchy lyrics and dance-friendly beat.

Spotfiy even called it one of its own Global Top 5 songs of the summer along with:

  • “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” – Billie Eilish
  • “HOT TO GO!” — Chappell Roan
  • “Not Like Us” – Kendrick Lamar
  • “Espresso” vs. Sabrina Carpenter

Shaboozey was recently nominated for six Grammy nominations including Best New Artist for “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” written by Sean Cook, Jerrel Jones, Joe Kent, Chibueze Collins Obinna, Nevin Sastry and Mark Williams. The song is also up for Song of the Year, Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song.

Shaboozey went home People’s Choice Country Awards for new artist and new artist song for “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” in September.
