Rolesville 4-star Zavion Griffin-Haynes decommits from UNC following Mack Brown’s firing

Within an hour of learning of Mack Brown’s firing as UNC’s head football coach, one of his most important in-state commitments canceled his pledge.

Rolesville High School junior Zavion Griffin-Haynes took to social media to share that he is no longer engaged, asking “Where is home?”

Griffin-Haynes is a 6-foot-6 edge rusher in the class of 2026. He weighs 220 pounds. He originally committed to North Carolina in September.

During his recruitment, Griffin-Haynes reported offers from (in order) Miami (OH), App State, South Carolina, Troy, Auburn, Charlotte, UCLA, NC State, Penn State, Miami, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, West Virginia, North Carolina, Duke, Illinois, Florida State, Ohio State, Western Michigan, Florida A&M, Ole Miss, Missouri, Michigan State and Purdue.

He is a consensus 4-star client among the big four recruiting services. Griffin-Haynes is ranked as high as the no. 135 junior prospect in the country by On3.

Rolesville has had an 11-1 season overall and is preparing to travel to Richmond in the third round. According to Rolesville’s MaxPreps, Griffin-Haynes has posted 37 total tackles and nine tackles for a loss in eight games.
