SAMMY HAGAR Says Singing VAN HALEN’s ‘Jump’ Feels ‘Like a Vocal Break’ to Him

In a recent interview with Rolling Stoneprevious VAN HALEN vocalist Sammy Hagar talked about “Best of all worlds” tour and explained why the live setlist contains fewer songs from David Lee Roth era.

On the question of the experience of performing “Panama” and “Skip” on this trip, Hagar replied: “‘Panama’ I will sing that song every day of my life. It’s a great song. I love making covers. IN Cabo (Wabo, Hagars club), I do LED ZEPPELIN all the time. I do CREAMI do THE (ROLLING) STONES. I like to play my favorite songs, and ‘Panama’ should be one of them.”

‘Skip,’ To be honest with you, I enjoyed it because all the songs from my era are in such a high register to sing,” he continued. “At the end of the show, to do ‘Skip’ almost at the end after two hours and ten minutes on stage, it was like I got a vocal break. It’s a cool song and it was for the fans and we only did half of it. We didn’t do the whole song. I felt good doing it. I felt good for the fans.”

When asked if the band discussed adding more Roth-era melodies, Hagar said, “Oh, that’s enough, three, and that’s because we played so long. If we only played for an hour and a half I would just do one and that would always be it “Panama.”

“Well, maybe two because I like when Mikey (Michael Anthony) sings ‘Don’t Talk Love’. He sings it so well now, and in that way Joe (Satriani) plays it…it’s the best song has sounded in many, many years and I’m not criticizing anyone. I’m just saying we bring that mom home and I’m going to sit down and ice my knees and my back.
