NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Thanksgiving is so much more than turkey and ham. In fact, the sides are the star of the show for some gathered around the table.

With Turkey Day fast approaching, Campbell released his Report on the status of the pageswhich offers a detailed look at popular accessories and trends across America.

Tennesseans should plan to make plenty of stuffing/dressing this year, as it was ranked as the state’s favorite side dish, according to the report.

The side dish isn’t just a Tennessee favorite. In fact, data shows that stuffing/dressing rules as the national favorite, up to second place in 2023, but 33% of people still prefer to adapt the recipe and make it their own.

Meanwhile, five states — California, Iowa, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming — voted mashed potatoes as the top Thanksgiving side dish.

According to Campbell’s, these are 2024’s top “Thanksgiving hits”:

The report also examined which flavors, ingredients and trends each region prefers to add to their Thanksgiving feasts. Campbell’s said those living in the Southeast, approximately 22%, tend to incorporate at least seven or more accessories, boasting more than the national average.

In conclusion, the report found that 56% of Americans would prefer to eat side dishes over turkey this year, adding that 38% say they would be happy to fill their plate with only side dishes, and 60% say they enjoy cooking the sides more than cooking the main bird.
