Jamal Murray gave Doris Burke a live fly for some strange reason

It’s a close 4th quarter battle between two elite Western Conference teams that have come off slower than expected early this season. It is the group stage of the NBA Cup. It doesn’t get more important for November basketball than this. So what is Jamal Murray of the Denver Nuggets doing?

He delivers a direct fly to Doris Burke on the ESPN broadcast booth.

Wait… what?

Yes, it actually happened.

The last time we saw Jamal Murray approach the courtside announce table, it was to come face-to-face with Kevin Harlan as he excitedly called a half-court buzzer beater. This was not it.

No, it was Murray who caught a fly on the court and then delivered it to a bewildered Doris Burke.

There are so many questions here.

How did Jamal Murray catch a live fly with his bare hands? How do you even do that? What kind Karate Kid training has he received that we are somehow unaware of and why does he suddenly decide to unleash it in the middle of an NBA game?

Second, why would he drop the fly for Doris Burke? Was it to show a national television audience that he possesses these mysterious abilities? She sounded as confused as America was probably watching at home.

Unfortunately, Murray was much more successful catching flies than he was shooting hoops. The All-Star guard finished 4-16 on the night from the field and scored 14 points as the Nuggets lost to the Mavericks 123-120 to fall to 8-6 on the season.
