Tigers jump out to early lead

game

AUBURN – The hunt for a seismic shake-up for Auburn football’s 2024 season begins tonight.

Already, this is a season marked by disappointment for the Tigers. In Year 2 under Hugh Freeze, they’ve shown little signs of progress, highlighted by an offense that has looked as dismal at times as it did last fall.

But with two games remaining, Auburn is somehow still fighting for its postseason hopes. If they need two more wins to clinch a bowl berth, the Tigers will need to take down the No. 15 in Texas A&M and no. 7 in Alabama to make good in the postseason, starting with a game against the Aggies on Saturday under the lights at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

As Auburn prepares for an upset bid, here’s everything you need to know about the Tigers and Aggies.

(This story will be updated throughout the game.)

4:13, Q2: Texas A&M receiver Terry Bussey made an extra reach for the Aggies’ first points, but fumbled as he broke the plane.

It has been determined on the field that the fumble occurred after Bussey broke the plane. There was no review.

It’s 9-7, Auburn.

13:09, Q2: Payton Thorne finds Cam Coleman for another touchdown, this time from 15 yards out, and the Tigers are suddenly up three possessions.

Coleman set a career high with 100 yards against Louisiana-Monroe last week. He’s already up to 112 yards on just four catches.

It’s 21-0, Auburn.

Much like last week’s win against Louisiana-Monroe, the Tigers are pitching another shutout through 15 minutes — only this time against a top-15 team with playoff hopes.

Auburn is averaging 9.4 yards per carry. game through one quarter and it’s outscoring the Aggies through the air 103-48.

1:08, Q1: Just when it looked like the Aggies were making a run, Thompson put an end to it.

Thompson picked off Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed for his second interception of the season. That set the Tigers up at their own 12 yard line.

Still 14-0, Auburn.

6:05, Q1: The Tigers needed almost no time to find their second touchdown of the day as Thorne hit Coleman for a 63-yard score on what was a two-play, 64-yard drive.

After posting a generational performance against Louisiana-Monroe, Coleman is picking up where he left off with three catches for 97 yards and a touchdown against the Aggies so far.

It’s 14-0, Auburn.

6:43, Q1: Auburn defensive end Keyron Crawford came up with one of his biggest plays of the season on the Aggies’ opening drive, taking down quarterback Marcel Reed for a one-yard gain on third-and-8.

Mike Elko trotted kicker Randy Bond for a 53-yard attempt, which was no good.

It’s 7-0, Auburn.

11:22, Q1: The Tigers wasted no time finding the end zone on their opening drive, going 65 yards on 10 plays in 3:33 of the game to score the first touchdown of the game.

Hunter slotted it in from two yards out. He had five carries for 20 yards on the opening drive.

It’s 7-0, Auburn.

Fairweather, listed as a game-time decision on Saturday’s pregame SEC availability report, got the start against the Aggies.

He was an active participant in pregame warmups and was also announced in the pregame starting lineup.

Our prediction for Auburn football vs. Texas A&M

No. 15 Texas A&M 24, Auburn 20: There is plenty of reason for Auburn fans to hope for a sensational upset of the Aggies. It’s a night game at Jordan-Hare. Texas A&M’s biggest problems always seem to coincide with talented rushing attacks, giving Jarquez Hunter a legitimate chance to make a game-changer. But the Tigers are 0-3 in one-possession games this season. If they can buck that trend against the Aggies, it will be a welcome sign of late-season momentum, but they haven’t shown any reason to believe they can yet.

Auburn football vs Texas A&M spread

It will be the first time this season that Auburn is not the betting favorite in a home game. The Tigers were favored in all six of their previous home games, including losses to Arkansas, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt.
