Two ‘minor’ earthquakes, 3.5 and 3.4, reported near Fontana Saturday – San Bernardino Sun

Two 3.0+ earthquakes were reported in the Inland Empire Saturday near Fontana, according to US Geological Survey.

The first magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck around 2:17 p.m. about 4.5 miles northwest of Fontana and about a mile deep into the ground, the USGS said.

Six hours later, a 3.4 earthquake occurred around 20:17 at a depth of over 2 miles deep into the ground 5.7 miles north, northwest of Fontana.

The 3.5-magnitude quake was felt as far northwest as Santa Clarita and as far south as Temecula and San Clemente, residents reported to the USGS, according to its Internet Intensity Map.

“This is a reminder to always be (ready) for any emergency,” the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District said social media.

No injuries were reported and both earthquakes were described as “minor” by Southern California Seismic Networkwhich is operated by Caltech and the USGS.
