‘Shallow Hal’ director takes credit for Gwyneth Paltrow naming daughter Apple

It turns out that Gwyneth Paltrow’s unique baby name isn’t so unique after all.

The actress, 52, shocked the world when she named her first-born child with ex-husband Chris Martin Apple in 2004 — but her “Shallow Hal” director thinks he knows where the name came from.

Brothers Bobby and Peter Farrelly discussed the name Apple during Wednesday’s episode of “The Jess Cagle Show,” with the latter apparently taking credit for Paltrow’s choice simply because he named his daughter it first.

The Farrellys directed the 2001 film “Shallow Hal,” starring Jack Black and Paltrow, three years before the actress gave birth to her daughter.

At the time, Peter’s daughter Apple was a toddler. She is now 22 and Paltrow’s Apple is 20.

“You have a daughter who is an up-and-coming actress, and I was shocked to see that her name is Apple — possibly the original Apple,” said podcast co-host Julia Cunningham. “I thought, did that name seep into Gwyneth Paltrow’s brain during Shallow Hal?”

“Apple was a baby when we made Shallow Hal,” Peter replied of his daughter before joking, “Gwyneth never gave us credit for that.”

The Post has contacted Paltrow’s rep for comment.

In addition to Apple, Paltrow and Martin are also parents to their son Moses, 18.

The actress married the Coldplay frontman in 2003 and famously coined the catchphrase “conscious uncoupling” when she announced their separation in March 2014.

Paltrow and Martin officially divorced in 2015.

During a performance in March 2019 d Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” Podcastthe actress elaborated on the term, explaining that she wanted a “way to bypass (the pain of divorce) and go straight to the point where we’re friends and we remember what we loved about each other and constantly acknowledge that we created these incredible people together.”

She added: “We’re a family, that’s it. We can pretend we’re not and hate each other… or (we can) try to reinvent this for ourselves.”

In 2020, Paltrow approached her relationship with Martin on the “Today” show and called him “family” again.

“Even though we’re not in a romantic relationship, we’re a real family and we like to do things to reinforce that we’re a family for the kids and for each other,” she said.

Paltrow and Martin have both moved on since their split.

The Oscar winner married Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story” co-creator Brad Falchuk in 2018, and Martin is engaged to actress Dakota Johnson.
