New Orleans firefighters battle blaze on Bourbon Street | News

New Orleans firefighters battled a 3-alarm fire on Bourbon Street early Tuesday morning.

The firefighters were dispatched at 2:44 a.m. to the 700 block of Bourbon, where they found a three-story, wood-frame building engulfed in flames and plumes of smoke, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.

While fighting the fire spread between the second and third floors and the attic, firefighters called a second alarm at 03:02. The firefighters eventually became exhausted as they struggled to find access between floors and called a third alarm.

Heavy rain continued to douse New Orleans through the early morning hours as the NOFD battled the blaze.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries to his hand and was treated by paramedics at the scene, NOFD officials said.

Twenty NOFD units and 52 firefighters had the fire under control by 4:04 a.m., according to NOFD. Power crews were also on scene to shut off power to the building.

Officials said the cause is under investigation and firefighters will remain on the scene through the morning to look for signs of rekindled fire.
