Where the SEC teams rank in the playoffs

Heading into the final weeks of 2024 college football regular season, the SEC is – to put it kindly – a bit of a mess.

Although few would argue against the idea that the conference is one of the sport’s best, if not the the best thing is that there is a block near the top of the league standings.

With Georgia knocks off Tennessee last Saturday, there are now six teams in the conference with fewer than three total losses, including four that all have two losses in SEC play, presenting a tough test for the conference championship game tiebreaker procedure for the newly expanded 16-team league.

On Tuesday evening, some much-needed clarity was offered, then College football playoff the selection committee revealed its third set of rankings this season.

In last week’s rankings, there were five SEC teams between the No. 7 and No. 15 spots, something that might only get more complicated after the Bulldogs’ win over the Vols added another team to the streak of two-loss SEC teams .

Exactly how Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama measure up against each other when they all have two losses and head-to-head results only add to the confusion, with the Bulldogs beating the Vols, who beat Crimson Tidewho beat the Bulldogs? And what to do with it Miss Olewho beat Georgia by 18 but have a loss to a 4-6 Kentucky team?

Here are the third full playoff rankings for the 2024 season, including where SEC teams landed in the top 25:
