Russia’s Putin approves expanded use of nuclear weapons

Ukrainian forces carried out their first attack on a border region of Russia using Western-supplied missiles as president Vladimir Putin approved an updated nuclear doctrine that expands the conditions for using nuclear weapons.

Ukraine deployed ATACMS missiles to attack a military facility in the western Bryansk region, Russia’s Defense Ministry said, according to the Interfax news agency. It was the first known attack following the president’s decision Joe Biden‘s administration to approve Kiev’s limited use of the weapons to strike targets inside Russia, two months before Donald Trump takes over and promises to quickly end the war.
