Poland v Scotland LIVE: Nations League result as Andy Robertson dramatically saves Scots from relegation

Steve Clarke can turn a winning side into Scotland’s big date against Poland

Andy Robertson’s last-minute goal saved Scotland from automatic Nations League relegation as the captain’s dramatic header gave Steve Clarke’s side a famous 2-1 win against Poland in Warsaw.

Scotland needed to win to avoid finishing bottom of League A1, but turned their late misfortune on its head when Robertson arrived at the back post to thump a powerful header into the net.

After losing their first three games of the campaign and drawing 0-0 against Portugal, Scotland ended their winless run with a late win over Croatia on Friday before making it back-to-back wins with victory against Poland.

Scotland got off to the perfect start as John McGinn converted a chance inside just three minutes, but Poland’s Kamil PiÄ…tkowski hit a superb header to equalize after 60 minutes.

At a time when Portugal beat Croatia in Zagreb, another goal would have lifted Scotland into second place – enough to progress to the quarter-finals and claim a seeded spot in World Cup qualifying.

But it ended as a draw in Zagreb, meaning Scotland will play a relegation play-off against one of the runners-up from League B in March in a bid to retain their top-flight status.

When is the Nations League draw and how does the promotion/relegation playoffs work?

Here is some added information about the Nations League play-offs.

Scotland still have all the ball but they can’t create a clear cut chance as McGinn can’t hold on to the long ball forward.
