Search continues for Hawaii woman who disappeared from LAX – NBC Los Angeles

A search continued today for a 31-year-old woman who went missing after landing at Los Angeles International Airport, where she had missed her connecting flight.

According to her family, Hannah Kobayashi was traveling to New York City to visit family when she disappeared. She landed at LAX on November 8, but after missing her connecting flight, she apparently traveled to The Grove mall, where she attended a Nike event on November 10 – from which she posted a photo on her Instagram page.

Her family says Kobayashi went back to LAX on Nov. 11 but apparently did not board a flight. It was on that day that the family says they started receiving strange text messages from her.

“Hannah’s last message to us was alarming — she mentioned that she felt scared and that someone might be trying to steal her money and identity,” according to the family. “She has not been heard from since and we are deeply concerned for her safety.”

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department told City News Service that the agency received a missing person’s report about Kobayashi and it remains an active case. No other details were given.

Family members most recently said they had obtained surveillance footage that captured Kobayashi in the area of the downtown subway station near the Crypto.com Arena, though it was unclear exactly when the footage was taken. The family indicated that based on the footage, “it’s clear that Hannah doesn’t appear to be doing well, and she’s not alone.”

Kobayashi’s aunt, Larie Pidgeon, told USA Today on Sunday that the messages the family received from her were out of character, including “weird things, calling us honey, things that weren’t quite the normal way she talks.”

Relatives have traveled to Los Angeles to search for her and are focusing their efforts on the airport area. They have also set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for the search.
