Country music star shot while hunting in Texas

Country music star Sundance Head has been hospitalized in Texas after he was shot while deer hunting on his ranch.

The 46-year-old was reportedly flown by helicopter to a hospital in Tyler.

His wife, Misty, posted a lengthy update on her Facebook page Friday night.

“We have arrived at the hospital and have just now physically seen him with my eyes and heard his sweet voice,” she wrote. “He is in good spirits considering the last several hours. Children are with him now. Prayers were answered as there was no internal damage from the bullet. Thank you for all the prayers.”

Misty then explained that Sunday was hunting at his ranch and was alone. She said no one shot him and he was not shot by his rifle. Instead, she wrote that Sundance was “out of the vehicle and reaching in to grab his 22, when he grabbed it, the 22 came out of its holster and hit the exterior of the Jeep squarely and went off. “

She said her husband then “went down the driveway to the main road to flag down a car to get help. 10 cars later someone turned around to help and called 911.”

She wrote that he was “lucky and grateful to be alive.”

“Thank you to the good Samaritan who stopped and helped and the quick response of the lifeguard and the doctors,” she added. “The doctor just called me, the bullet went through his belly button and lodged in his abdominal wall missing all vital organs. He doesn’t need surgery as they won’t remove the bullet.”

Misty added that “him being on the bigger side was a good thing. The bullet is in his fatty tissue.”

So Sundance didn’t dodge a bullet, but it sure looks like he got lucky, all things considered.

Head was the winner of season 11 of “The Voice”.
