SEC in updated coaches poll, AP Top 25

game

Another week, another resume-building opportunity for Southeastern Conference football teams for the 12-team College Football Playoff

The biggest game for the conference in Week 12 was No. 4 Tennessee-No. 10 Georgia matchup from Athens, Georgia. The Bulldogs (8-2, 6-2 in SEC play) overcame an early 10-0 deficit at Sanford Stadium to win 31-17, holding the Vols (8-2, 5-2) scoreless in the second half after both teams went into halftime tied 17-17.

With that, the Bulldogs have almost assured that they will make the common fisheries policy, probably as a unified and excluded any interference vs. UMass or Georgia Tech in the final two weeks of the season. And despite the loss, Tennessee (ranked No. 7 in the latest CFP top 25 rankings), still have a chance to make the playoffs likewise.

No. 3 Texas did what it needed to do with a 20-10 win over Arkansas on Saturday, while No. 15 Texas A&M defeated New Mexico State 38-3. Assuming the Longhorns and Aggies beat Kentucky and Auburn, respectively, in Week 13, their Rivalry Week meeting will determine which team heads to Atlanta for the SEC Championship.

Elsewhere, No. 22 LSU (6-4, 3-3) was eliminated from the SEC championship game and CFP contention after a demoralizing 27-16 loss to Florida (5-5, 3-4) in the Swamp. No. 23 South Carolina (7-3, 5-3) also added to what has been an impressive season, winning a wild 34-30 game against No. 21 Missouri (7-3, 3-3).

No. 9 Alabama, Auburn and Kentucky won easy games in “buy games” against Mercer, Louisiana-Monroe and Murray State, respectively.

With those results secured, here’s where the SEC teams fell in the polls this week:
