Preview and best value bets for the November meeting on Sunday 17th November

It’s the third and final day of the November meeting at Cheltenham and Matt Brocklebank has a few Sunday stakes to consider.

  • Matt Brocklebank’s Value Bet is designed to generate long-term profit by searching for overpriced horses at the weekend races and at the big festivals in Great Britain and Ireland.
  • Value Bet previews are initially available to logged in readers through Sporting Life Plus, with Sky Bet price guarantees, before the full column is made available to everyone 15 minutes later.
  • Following all of Matt’s picks for recommended odds/stakes since the start of 2024 would have produced over 110 points in profit.

Two good points races on Sunday’s card at Cheltenham, starting with the Holland Cooper Handicap Chase over an extended three miles and three furlongs.

A handful of these also have an entry for next month’s Becher Chase at Aintree and could use the race as a bit of a springboard, but that’s not the case with ROSE OF ARCADIA and I reckon she might have a bit more to offer over marathons this season.

She was sent back point-to-point after initially disappointing the Tizzards and previous owners Cheveley Park Stud in her first trip over fences, but soon found her stride again and it just looked like the giant mare needed a little more time to really fill out her frame.

The step up to three miles and beyond clearly helped her progress too, and she was really instrumental in winning when she saw off the recalcitrant Ballygriffincottage at Sandown back in March.

Under par at Plumpton on her final outing last term, Rose Of Arcadia underwent wind surgery over the summer and resumed with an encouraging effort when third at Exeter last month, beaten less than five lengths after running prominently throughout through.

She has shed a pound in the weights and is now just 2lb higher than for the Sandown win and is 3lb better off with Exeter runner-up Abuffalosoldier, who is among those reportedly on target for Becher.

She is twice the height of Warren Greatrex’s horse here and appears to be on.

In the Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle it’s hard to fault Dysart Eno’s unbeaten record and I’m not taking her lightly as she beat Golden Ace in an Aintree bumper last season, but is her hurdle form up to much? I have my doubts.

She was found a few very soft races heading into the Festival in March but then missed out on the big day after being found to be lame, so she now returns to action having not raced competitively since the end of January.

Burdett Road is a horse I’ve fancied in big races on the Flat a couple of times this year and his claims are there for all to see back in the jumps but CRACKING RHAPSODY seems to represent better value.

Another second-season hurdler, he enjoyed himself well as a novice, winning at Hexham 12 months ago before adding to his tally with back-to-back wins at Kelso.

The other success on his local track came in the valuable Morebattle Hurdle, so we know he can cut it in the hustle and bustle of a big handicap, which obviously bodes well on Sunday.

His one-length third in the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr in April underlined the fact that Cracking Rhapsody was still on an upward curve deep into the spring and I loved his eye-catching comeback run when fourth back at Hexham last month .

It should have blown away the summer cobwebs and although most of his success has been achieved on genuine testing conditions, he has been basically unapologetic at Cheltenham all weekend so I won’t let that put me off having a bet.
