After having its preseason College Football Playoff hopes seemingly destroyed by Kentucky and LSU, Ole Miss football appears to be back on track.

The latest sign came last week, then 12th ranked rebels (8-2, 4-2 SEC) knocked off then No. 2 Georgia for their first signature win of the season and the biggest single win of the Lane Kiffin era.

The Rebels’ victory brought not only a surge in the national polls, but also an entry into the 12-team College Football Playoff field at No. 11 in Tuesday’s CFP rankings. But it’s a high momentum that Kiffin’s crew will need to keep intact and continue to build on as they are inactive this week.

Although the Rebels are well positioned for a bowl game and have a signature win on their resume, Miss Ole still has a small margin of error — ie. its two losses — to work with as it prepares for its final two regular-season games. If it wins and receives some help, Ole Miss will get the playoff appearance it entered the season hoping for.

Is Ole Miss playing football today?

No, Ole Miss is on its second of two bye weeks this season in Week 12.

The Rebels return to the gridiron next Saturday on the road in Gainesville against Florida. Ole Miss will then host Mississippi State the day after Thanksgiving at home for a CT kickoff at 7 p.m. 2:30 p.m.

At 5-2 in SEC play, Ole Miss is tied with Alabama for fifth in the conference standings. The Rebels will likely need help over the next two weeks to punch their ticket to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game. Falling short of the SEC title wouldn’t be a bad thing for Ole Miss, though, as it wouldn’t have to risk a potential third loss — though a win would mean an automatic bid to the CFP.

The easiest path for Ole Miss to make the CFP is to win out and come in as an at-large team. Going into week 12, ESPN’s College Football Power Index has Ole Miss with a 62.3% chance to reach the College Football Playoff, which ranks 13th best among all Division I FBS teams. ESPN Analytics predicts the Rebels will win both of their remaining two games with ease.
