Canelo next? Jake Paul’s Post-Tyson Plan Revealed

Jake Paul says he wants to shout out Canelo Alvarez after defeating Mike Tyson on Friday night in their eight-rounder. YouTuber Paul has previously called out superstar Canelo, but the timing of his call now signals that he believes his current fight against the old Tyson needs cheap publicity.

Jake is getting his hustle going and he’s using Canelo’s name to draw attention to his celebrity fight against the old relic, Mike Tyson. It’s completely pathetic, but you have to do something to generate interest in the Tyson fight. I’m just surprised Jake Paul didn’t mention some other popular fighters in his call.

Reasons why Jake Paul is calling out Canelo

  • This self-promoting trait for 27-year-old influencer Jake to help build hype for his Nextflix fight against 58-year-old Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Shouting Canelo, the #1 star in North America, will obviously help Jake Paul generate much needed attention for his celebrity bout against the retired Tyson.
  • Setting up a big money match: Although Jake Paul has a net worth estimated at $80 million, which could rise to $120 million after Friday’s fight with Mike Tyson, he’s putting himself in a position to potentially get an even bigger payday against Canelo if the Mexican star goes through with it to fight him. It would be a money fight of sorts, but there are enough suckers who would buy a Canelo vs. Jake match so both can make a kill.
  • To place his name among the best: By Jake Paul calling out Canelo, he plants the idea into the minds of casual boxing fans that he is a relevant fighter on the same perch as the Mexican star. It is a strategy behind name-dropping. A person mentions someone who is above their level of performance to make the listener think they are on the same level. Jake’s only chance to convince fans that he deserves a fight against Canelo is to trick them into thinking he’s on his level after defeating the 58-year-old fossil Tyson.

“This moment will prove that I’m the face of boxing, the biggest attraction, and me vs. Canelo at 200 lbs for the world cruiserweight championship is the biggest fight,” Jake Paul told SugaSean MMA about what he plans to do after he beats Mike Tyson on Friday.

“It makes so much sense. Canelo is on his way out; he wants a payday. And I want to show the world that all the crap I’ve been talking about beating Canelo is actually true. I want the biggest upset in the sport of boxing. We want to fight to really see who is the face.”
