Whoopi Goldberg claims New York bakery refused to serve her because of left-wing views

Fellow panelist Sara Haines spat her mouthful of cake into the air as the audience booed and other co-hosts said, “What?”

Mrs. Goldberg said, “No, let me explain. They said their ovens had broken down, but people went and got them anyway, which is why I’m not telling you who made them. It’s not … because I’m a woman, but maybe they didn’t like my politics.”

According to Ms. Holtermann, the boilerplate issue meant that she could not commit to Ms. Goldberg’s order in advance.

She said she ‘didn’t want to make a commitment I can’t fulfill’, but later she could bake the desserts.

Holtermann’s says on its Facebook page that it is the oldest family-owned bakery on Staten Island, having been in business since 1878.

Goldberg’s comments came after The Telegraph shared the story of Jack Phillips, a Christian baker who was vilified after refusing to make a cake for a same-sex wedding.

Mr. Phillips, a devout Christian, was nearly driven out of business by trolls who flooded his bakery with demands for outlandish and offensive cakes.

He was eventually forced to close the wedding cake aspect of his business, faced threats on his life and dragged through the courts for nearly a decade.
