‘The Masked Singer’ reveals Macaron as Bethany Hamilton, ‘Soul Surfer’ inspiration

Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Masked Singer Season 12, Episode 7, “Who Are You Party Night.”

Aptly titled Who Are You Fest Night, The Masked Singer turned into a music festival for the first time ever.

Vibes were distinctly Coachella, but do it Masked singer silliness, which ironically ended up being the perfect way to introduce the final eclectic group of masks.

Their performances flowed appropriately in all genres – Royal Knight kicked things off with “Yoü and I” by Lady Gaga, Sherlock Hound sang “Under the Bridge” by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ice King performed “Tonight Tonight” by Hot Chelle Rae, Macaron chose “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen and Strawberry Shortcake ended the show on a high note with “Slow Burn” by Kacey Musgraves.

In honor of the theme, the show created “the most coveted swag of all festivals” for tracks on stage, complete with their own merch wall, because you can’t have a festival without merch!

The episode also featured a surprise about-face from the panelists, where they (nicely) addressed the elephant in the room. “This is the longest we’ve gone without getting any (guess) right,” Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg pointed out. Ken Jeong added: “Group B was empty for all of us.” In fact, none of the panelists correctly guessed any of the eliminated contestants from Group B, but ever the optimist, McCarthy-Wahlberg concluded, “Together we make a good brain.”

… Except maybe Robin Thicke. Jeong got a chance to roast him for a change when Thicke was caught not paying attention during that exchange. “Good, Robin? Are you even paying attention right now? Are you even listening?” Jeong reprimanded him.

Despite Jeong’s ability to grab, the show never lets him go an episode without getting beat up himself. Later that night, Jeong joked with host Nick Cannon, “You look like the back of a poker game,” to which Cannon replied, “You look like my grandma’s couch.” Touché.

However, the theme was not the only first of the night. At one point, backstage, McCarthy-Wahlberg was getting her makeup done when a very excited Rita Ora could be seen walking up to her to share a brand new guess for Macaron after the contestant’s performance.

After it was all said and done, Ora had her theory put to the test because Macaron was revealed as the first costume to go home from Group C. Thicke guessed Ariana Madix and Jeong chose Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Ora, meanwhile, held on to her mid-episode epiphany of professional surfer, author and shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton. McCarthy-Wahlberg liked the guess so much that she took it for herself, and in the end the ladies on the panel were both revealed to be right when Macaron actually had Soul Surfer biopic subject. That meant they officially broke the judges’ cold streak of late.
