Golden Bachelorette Finale Recap: Joan is engaged to Chock

Joan Vassos accepted a Neil Lane diamond on Wednesday, November 13, the final of The Golden Bachelor.

After sending home Guy Gansert early Joan, 61, became engaged to Shock Chapple.

“From our first date at Disneyland, I thought I saw a future with you, and this is the first time I imagined a future with anyone else in a really long time,” shared Joan Chock, 61. “And then tragedy struck your family and your mother died and you had to go I wanted you to go but I was really worried you wouldn’t come back and that’s when I realized I couldn’t do this trip without you.”

“I waited for this moment in this amazing place to tell you that I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” she continued as Chock fell to his knees.

Chock, an insurance agent from Wichita, Kansas, was an early front-runner for Joan and scored the first one-on-one date of the season.

“We started talking and never stopped,” Joan previously gushed to her Us Weekly cover story. “It was so easy — to the point where the producers said, ‘Hey, enjoy the atmosphere.’ You’re just talking amongst yourselves.’”

Joan was previously married to her husband John for 32 years. He died in 2021 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The two shared four children: Nick34; Erica33; Allison30; and Luke28.

“I’ve had a feeling that I don’t feel as safe as I used to when John was alive,” Joan shared Us. “I thought, ‘(Chock’s) someone who would make you feel safe again’.”

Chock, for his part, was married to his ex-wife Heather for 12 years and filed for divorce in 2012. They share two children: Taylor25 and Tyler23. He was engaged to his partner of nine years, Kathywhen she died of brain cancer in 2022. As she mentioned in her last speech, Joan and Chock’s happy ending was almost cut short when he briefly left the show because his mother died.

“I knew in his heart that he wanted to come back, but I knew he could find something at home that wouldn’t allow him to come back,” she shared Us. “And as a really capable guy, he wasn’t going to leave his family that needed him. So I was honestly really, really worried that he wasn’t going to come back. Thank God he did.”
