Seattle Seahawks coach former Patriots draft bust N’Keal Harry

The Seattle Seahawks could be without Noah Fant’s services for several weeks after he suffered a groin injury in practice, meaning the search is on for tight end help.

According to Howard Balzer of Cards Wire, Seattle brought in four tight ends, one of whom was a notable draft bust as a wide receiver for New England Patriots.

N’Keal Harry is the most famous name here as one of the eight wide receivers selected ahead of DK Metcalf in the 2019 NFL Draft. Harry was taken with the 32nd overall pick by the Patriots, whose track record of spending early-round draft capital on wide receivers under Bill Belichick was notoriously spotty. He was ineffective in New England, catching just 57 passes for 598 yards and 4 touchdowns.

When Harry left the Patriots in 2022, he played a few games with the Chicago Bears, catching 7 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, and played almost no snaps last season with the Minnesota Vikings. The former Arizona State star stands 6’3 and originally played at 225 pounds, but of course he put on some weight to switch positions.

As for the other tight ends: Tre’ McKitty was a 2021 third-round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers. Known more as a blocking tight end, McKitty didn’t pan out in LA and didn’t live out his contract. He was most recently with the Buffalo Bills before being cut in the preseason. Tyree Jackson was an XFL quarterback with the DC Defenders before switching to TE in the NFL, most recently with the New York Giants. Finally, Gerrit Prince was exclusively a practice squad/training camp player for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs over the last few seasons.

The Seahawks have a full practice squad, so if a TE is signed, someone has to be cut. Mike Macdonald said they don’t expect Noah Fant to go on IR, so keep that in mind.

Seattle’s current healthy TEs on the active roster are rookie AJ Barner, Pharaoh Brown and Brady Russell. Tyler Mabry is the only tight end on the practice squad.
