Strong storm destroys roofs and knocks down trees in Holly

A brief, strong storm damaged trees, downed power lines and may have included a tornado in Holly Sunday night.

The storm damaged the roofs of several buildings, downed trees and downed power lines, Holly police said.

The damage happened near Saginaw, Sherman, John and Church streets, but may have extended further, police said.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning around The warnings extended from northern Oakland County to the Thumb and west of the Thumb.

Holly Police and Fire Departments continue to inspect the damage and secure the area. The fallen trees and power lines may lead to the closure of several streets.

The authorities have warned utility companies about the damage to power lines.

Police are asking residents to avoid the area due to downed trees and possible live electrical wires.

Residents planning to assess the damage were warned to wait until daylight, when it will be safer, police said.

“Use caution where there is storm damage,” police said in a statement. “Stay safe, Holly!”
