Wicked’s Jon M. Chu joins the premiere from the hospital as wife gives birth

Kim Kardashian hosts an elaborate ‘Wicked’ screening party at home with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo

Oh, what a party Jon M. Chu have today.

The Evil director was MIA from the film’s Los Angeles premiere on November 9, as was his wife Christine Hodge preparing to give birth to their fifth child. But only because he wasn’t there physical in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, that doesn’t mean Jon didn’t pop into the Land of Oz in spirit.

Yes, the 45-year-old made sure to access the premiere’s live stream and dropped a few comments that inevitably became quite popular.

“I pretend I’m there while my wife pushes,” he commented on Instagram Live Nov. 9, adding as he got a mention on the red carpet, “I love a shoutout!! Hahaha this hospital thinks I’m crazy.”

But he also made sure to keep fans updated on his exciting activity, noting: “Shout out to me in the cafeteriaiiiaaaa!! Eating microwave pasta yo!!”

From the beginning, Jon has been honest about how excited he was about the pieces falling into place – especially when he was able to cast Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good Witch, and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. And especially the casting of Ariana came as a surprise.
