Don Johnson stuns Jimmy Kimmel with wild story about Johnny Depp, Hunter S. Thompson and “shotguns loaded with blanks”

Don Johnson took a trip down prank memory lane on Thursday night (November 7) Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Host Jimmy Kimmel, who is next door to Miami Vice alum’s daughter Dakota Johnson, told Don that Dakota had informed him that he was next door to the late author Hunter S. Thompson when he was growing up. Don shared that “Hunter was like (his) best friend for 25 years,” and like his daughter, “would always pull pranks and stuff.”

Kimmel was then reminded of a story he heard from Johnny Depp, prompting his guest to fill in the blanks.

“I called Hunter’s to see if he had weed. Of course he had, I think, a ton out back,” Don joked per Page six. “So I said, ‘Look, I’m going to come over and get some weed because I’ve got a little group of people here.’ So he said, ‘Sure, yeah, come by.'”

Don sent his assistant over to secure the goods, which, according to his retelling, “drives up Hunter’s driveway and Johnny Depp and Hunter hide behind Hunter’s car with shotguns loaded with blanks.”

“My assistant got out of the car and they both jumped out and said, ‘Die mom!'” Don recounted, continuing to mimic the sound of the shotguns. “And blew up. And my assistant, God bless him, he peed his pants.”

Kimmel joked “that’s the least (he) would do in (his) pants” before asking if the assistant is “still with” Don, who replied, “Oh, no.”

Kimmel then asked, “Is that assistant still with us?”

Don said: “I think he’s still with us. I’m not sure in what kind of mental state.”

Depp, who had a close relationship with Thompson, previously portrayed him Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) and Rome Diary (2011), the latter of which was published six years after Thompson’s death by suicide in 2005.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! sent on weekdays at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
