Beyoncé is the most nominated Grammy artist of all time after JAY-Z Called Out Academy

Beyoncé has broken a Grammy Awards record!

After the Recording Academy announced the full list of 2025 Grammy Awards nominations on Friday, November 8, the organization also confirmed a major achievement: Beyoncé is now the most nominated single artist in the ceremony’s history with 99 nominations.

Only this year is Cowboy Carter the artist was nominated for 11 awards, including several first-time nominations in the country categories: Best Country Solo Performance for “16 CARRIAGES”, Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Miley Cyrus for “II MOST WANTED”, Best Country Song for “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” Best country album, Best Americana Performance for “YA YA” and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “LEVII’S JEANS” featuring Post Malone.

The musician’s record-breaking nominations come after some controversy at last year’s Grammy Awards, when JAY-Z called out the Recording Academy for snubbing his wife multiple times over the years in the Album of the Year category.

“We want you guys to get it right,” said the rapper, 54, as he took on Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. “At least getting close to the right thing. And of course it’s subjective. You guys don’t have to applaud everything. Obviously it’s subjective because you know it’s music and it’s opinion-based.”

“But you know, some things — I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than anybody and has never won album of the year,” he continued, referring to Beyoncé. “So even by your own metrics, it doesn’t work. Think about it. The most Grammy-winning album to never win album of the year. It doesn’t work.”

At the time, Beyoncé had been nominated for album of the year four times, losing to Taylor Swift in 2010, Beck in 2015, Adele in 2017 and Harry Styles in 2023.

“You know, some of you will go home tonight feeling like you’ve been robbed. Some of you can be robbed. Some of you don’t fit into a category. No, when I get nervous, I tell the truth.” JAY-Z added.

The rapper made similar comments in 2023, telling Tide in an interview just before the Grammys, once again that he hoped the Academy would “get it right” and vote for Renaissance for album of the year.

“The truth is, we grew up wanting to be at the Grammys, and that was our goal. We just want them to get it right. That’s what we want,” he said in 2023.

Other top nominees this year include Charli xcx, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone with seven nominations each, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift with six and producer Jack Antonoff and country breakout Shaboozey with five each.
