Pistons’ Jalen Duren leaves vs. Hornets with ankle injury

game

Detroit — Jalen Duren’s night against the Charlotte Hornets was over before it even started. Less than two minutes into the Detroit Pistons’ game against the Hornets on Wednesday night, Duren suffered a left ankle injury while trying to rebound in the first quarter.

After a 30-second timeout, Duren played six more minutes. However, the Pistons ruled out their third-year big man after a halftime evaluation. Isaiah Stewart started the second half in Duren’s absence, while Paul Reed played additional minutes off the bench. The Pistons trailed the Hornets 46-45 at the half.

Before the night, Duren was coming off back-to-back double-double performances that helped the Pistons start a two-game winning streak. In Monday’s win against the Los Angeles Lakers, Duren finished with a team-high 14 rebounds and 11 points. Against the Brooklyn Nets, he finished with a season-high 17 rebounds, 13 points and four assists in a 106–92 victory.
