The 2024 election saw key victories in select states that shifted power to party control in Congress.

Republicans took control of the Senate, and the race to control the House continues.

Here are the latest balance of power results:

The 2024 election is fighting for the Senate

Republicans took control of the upper chamber with victories in Ohio, Florida and Texas.

In Texas, Sen. Ted Cruz (R) defeated challenger Colin Allred (D). In Ohio, Bernie Moreno (R) defeated Sen. Sherrod Brown (D). In Florida, Rick Scott (R) defeated Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D).

For the first time, the Senate will have two black women with Sen.-elect Lisa Blunt Rochester representing Delaware and Sen.-elect Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland.

The 2024 election campaign for the House of Representatives

All 435 seats in the House are up for grabs every midterm and presidential election year.

Like the Senate, control of the House came down to a handful of close races.

Before the election, Republicans only had control of the lower chamber with two seats.

This is how the places are distributed so far:

Election results could take days to be called, experts have warned.

Some states, like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, cannot begin processing absentee and mailed-in ballots until Election Day.

The results for the 2020 election won by President Joe Biden took four days, while it took 35 days to announce that George W. Bush had won the White House in 2000.
