Rumors of a ban on products in the United States from the Philippines have resulted in panic buying among many Filipino Americans. Claims are circulating on social media that the US is preparing to ban several spices from the Filipino brand, Many Thomas.

Several social media users claim that Mang Tomas’ banana sauce, famous among Filipino Americans, is about to be banned in the United States. It has caused panic among Filipino Americans, resulting in mass purchases of Lots of Tomas sauce across supermarkets and stores in the US.

However, a ban on Mang Tomas sauce has not been implemented and people can still buy them. However, a new ruling by the US Food and Drug Administration will limit the importation of a new version of the product, meaning that people will only be able to buy while stocks last.

Some of the ingredients used in the sauce are harmful for human consumption, the FDA ruling said. Citing the Philippines’ Manila Bulletin, the Daily Dot reported that the chemicals found in the country’s products included Benzoate, a preservative that negatively affects the gut microbiome, and BHA with potential carcinogenic effects.

The FDA said Mang Toma’s banana sauce also contains potassium iodate, a dough enhancer that, among other things, can disrupt thyroid function at high doses.

“I am completely devastated by this news, Jufran did nothing wrong! Justice for Mang Tomas ,” said one user.

“Kamala will bring back Bagoong and Mang Tomas! Vote!” said one user.

Meanwhile, the sauce bottles, which normally cost $2, are being sold at some locations for up to $20, according to reports.
