Saints WR Chris Olave carted off the field with significant damage

New Orleans Saints star wide receiver Chris Olave is carted off the field after taking a big hit after a play. Olave stayed on the ground and the carriage was immediately called. The players took a knee around the receiver in what appears to be a serious situation.

The cart is out for Chris Olave, who took a big hit from Xavier Woods that was flagged for unnecessary roughness.

The announcers covering the Saints game indicated that Olave was moving his hands and arms as he was lifted onto the cart. The hit he took doesn’t appear to have caused any serious damage to his spinal cord, which is huge news.

An additional video shows the hit that Olave took. He collided with two Panthers defenders and was immediately on the ground without moving.

Olave already had to deal with one concussion this season, and another would add to the growing number of concussions he has experienced. This is a very serious situation and the hope is that the Saints receiver did not suffer any kind of serious injury.

The good news in all of this is that Olave was able to move his extremities. Given that he is sent off, he is likely out for the rest of the game.

Losing Olave will have a big impact on the Saints’ offense, which is already reeling from Rashid Shaheed. Shaheed elected to have the meniscus repaired, ending his 2024 season early.

Olave was also ruled out of Week 7 due to the concussion he suffered in Week 6. Should the hit he suffered Sunday be considered a concussion, it would be his second of the 2024 season, along with the second he suffered in a matter of three weeks.

The Saints will do their due diligence to determine if and when Olave can return if it is revealed he suffered a concussion. The fact that he had to be driven off the field could mean several things.

UPDATE:

NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed that Olave has suffered a concussion and has been ruled out.

The best case scenario is that Olave took a shot to the head but can return this season. The worst case scenario would be that the injury turns out to be something far more serious than just a concussion.
