Gypsy Rose Blanchard announces the birth of her daughter

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3/TMX) – Former Springfield native Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ken Urker announced the birth of their daughter, Aurora Raina Urker, on Wednesday.

“Welcome 2025 with the greatest gift of all,” Urker wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, along with a photo of the couple with their newborn.

Blanchard and Urker first developed a relationship while she was incarcerated for her role in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee, in Springfield in June 2015. Blanchard’s experience as a victim of Munchausen by proxy, where her mother subjected her to years of unnecessary medical procedures , has made her the subject of several recent documentaries.

After serving eight years in prison, Blanchard was released on parole in December 2023. She married Ryan Anderson, but the couple soon separated and she rekindled her relationship with Urker. After announcing her pregnancy, Blanchard later revealed the results of a prenatal paternity test that confirmed Urker as the father.

In an interview with People last month, Blanchard explained the background behind Aurora’s name, which some speculated was inspired by “Sleeping Beauty” or the fact that her stepmother Kristy’s dog is named Aurora Grace.

“It’s not because of that,” Blanchard told the magazine.

“When Ken and I were together seven years ago, we both have a fascination with the northern lights, and the proper term is Aurora Borealis,” she said. “I think it was maybe 2018, we wrote each other’s future child’s name on pieces of paper and Aurora is what we both chose without even knowing each other chose it.”

Despite their breakup, she remembered the name over the years.

“When we had broken up (it was like) ‘Oh, Aurora is never going to be born.’ A lot of people think the origin is one thing, but they don’t know the little story.”

Although Blanchard is currently on parole, she plans to see the Northern Lights with Urker in the future.

“One day we’ll see,” she said. “When I’m free of parole, we’re leaving. We’re going to Sweden.”
